When in doubt, choose the kids. There will be plenty of time later to choose work.

I am a firm believer that sharing common experiences is the backbone of a solid relationship.  Giving your children an opportunity to spend time with you as a friend rather than a parent allows you the chance to earn their trust and will make those moments when you need to advise them easier.
